How to get to Žilina

Transport
Žilina is directly accessible by car or by train without changes from all capitals of the European Union neighbour countries – Bratislava (100 min.), (Vienna 200 min.), Prague (300 min.), Budapest (420 min.), and Warsaw (450 min.). There is an airport in Žilina (around 20 min. away from the town centre), offering direct flights to Prague twice a day. By 2013, there is an intention of new flights to other European capital cities.

How to get to Žilina

Road Transport
Žilina is crossed by three routes of international importance - E 50 (Atlantic-Paris-Prague-Ukraine), E 75 (Baltic-Beograd-Athens) and E 442. Currently, the motorway D1 from Bratislava to Košice is constructed by the village Hričovské Podhradie (traffic junction at the airport Žilina), however, it will continue by the Ovčiarsko tunnel between Žilina and Lietavská Lúčka to the Višňové-Dubná Skala tunnel.
At present, the motorway D 3 from the traffic junction in Hričovské podhradie is in service by Horný Hričov. A slip road to Strážov and to Žilina scaffold bridge is still under construction. In the near future, a construction of the D3 section over the Hričov water reservoir to Čadca and Poland will begin (border crossing Skalité/Zwardoň).

Railway Transport
There is an important junction of railway lines E 42 a E 52 that, in accordance with the international AGG agreement, function as main international railway routes. The heaviest traffic of express trains is on the route Bratislava - Košice. There are direct railway connections to Prague, Warsaw, Katowice, Moscow and Budapest.

Air Transport
At present, Žilina uses the airport near Dolný Hričov, being in operation since 1975. In 1996, on the motion of Žilina town, a commercial company Letisko Žilina, a.s. was established. Today, it is the international airport with scheduled flights on working days to the Prague-Ruzyně Airport. A new terminal was built at the airport. The landing runway is 1200 m long, enabling the aircrafts having the capacity up to 60 passengers land on there. There are plans for extension of the landing runaway in order to enable landing of bigger aircrafts.
