The Mayor is the chief executive authority of the town, representing it at functions outside the town. The Mayor is the statutory body in the town’s legal and proprietary relationships and in employment relationships of the town employees.

Town concil

The Town Council is a town representative body, consisting of the councillors elected by the townspeople in direct election. The councillors of the Town Council are elected to four-year terms and their office terminates with a vow taken by newly-elected councillors of the Town Council.

Documents needed by a foreigner

Documents needed by a foreigner to get married on the territory of the Slovak Republic

A foreigner in the Slovak Republic is obliged at least 14 days before the marriage in the Slovak Republic to submit the following documents at the appropriate registration office according to the Section 28 of the Act No. 154/1994 Coll. on Registries as amended by later regulations:
  • 1. Birth certificate (proof of birth) including the first name and the surname, date and place of birth and data about his/her parents.
  • 2. Document proving capability to get married (not older than six months) with the standpoint that no circumstances are known that would exclude marriage according to the law of foreigner’s domicile. The stated document must include also the following facts:
    • Foreigner’s first name and surname, date and place of birth, state citizenship, marital status, permanent residence and data about the person he/she wants to marry.
    • Some states do not issue this document and therefore it is needed to submit a confirmation about this fact and to document the citizenship, marital status and permanent residence by several separate confirmations.
Legally valid judgement about a divorce if the foreigner is divorced.
Death certificate of spouse if the foreigner is a widow(er).
The documents must be valid according to the international covenants and translated by official translator.
Valid identity document.

Documents required for issuing a birth certificate to a newborn

With a child born in a marriage the child’s father shall appear at the appropriate registration office and submit the following documents:
  • marriage certificate
  • valid identity cards of both child’s parents
With a child born to a single motherthe child’s mother shall appear at the appropriate registration office and submit the following documents:
  • birth certificate
  • valid identity card
With a child born to a divorced mother the child’s mother shall appear at the appropriate registration office and submit the following documents:
  • birth certificate
  • legally valid judgement on divorce
  • valid identity card
  • marriage certificate if the child is born within the period of 300 days from the legal validity of the divorce
With a child born to a widow the child’s mother shall appear at the appropriate registration office and submit the following documents:
  • birth certificate
  • husband’s death certificate
  • valid identity card
  • marriage certificate if the child is born within the period of 300 days from the husband’s death
At voluntary determining of paternity the child’s father shall appear with the mother at the registration office and submit the following documents:
  • birth certificate
  • valid identity card
Underage parents may only determine paternity at the appropriate court.

Instructions for citizens at death

 
The examining physician is liable to report the death at the registration office according to the place of death immediately, however, within 3 working days after the inspection of the corpse at the latest by delivering the certificate of corpse examination in three copies
 
Other data to be entered into the book of deaths shall be provided to the registration office by the person arranging the funeral by submitting the identity card of the dead, birth certificate, marriage certificate and/or submitting the passport of a dead foreigner
 
If a Slovak citizen dies in abroad it is needed that the mourners bring the following documents to the registration office according to the place of dead´s permanent residence: original (and/or attested copy) of the death certificate valid according to the international covenants translated by an official translator into Slovak language, dead´s identity card and/or proof of Slovak Republic citizenship, birth and marriage certificates.
